Progress

Yes, blogging from work again. Because it’s Friday and my “neighbours” are away at the moment, I am all alone and struggling to stay awake. Forgot about bringing my breakfast to work this morning so yeah… I’m hungry and waiting for lunch now. I’ve been drinking loads of water this morning because I’m hungry. Hehe…

Anyway, the crazy weekend just started. Tonight is DV8 night and tomorrow we are going for a trip up north to see dolphins followed by Marcus surprise birthday party from 6pm onwards. Oh my goodness… a long day eh? I’m really excited about the trip up north but not too excited about the rest. I wonder why. Probably because I’m getting old and clubbing is just not my thing anymore? I’ll probably see lots of younger “boys” which I’m not really interested in CHECKING THEM OUT… if you get what I mean… it’s different for guys. They can always check out younger girls… it doesn’t sound wrong. Hmm… I think I’ll just go for the sake of going and to keep my Welly mate accompanied.

Oh yeah. good news from me. I’ve been approached by my director yesterday. He asked me to step up to be the project manager of one of the big jobs we have been doing since 2002. The reason being the current project manager is transferring to another branch in UK and I’ve been her assistant for the past few months so I’m the best candidate. Hmm ... I did hesitate for a while because I don’t seem to know a lot about the project. (à Sign of low confidence… ~.~) But he’s nice enough to assist me. So I’m now officially a project manager for one of the key projects after spending months doing small jobs.

Well thinking about it… my work progress so far since I join this company…

First few months (early 2006)
90% of admin job, I’ve done really crappy admin job (filing, sending letters, ordering stationeries à I’ve been “nominated” to be the assistant secretary when my secretary is away). I’ve been asked to be the department librarian and been given the “mission impossible”, i.e. tidying up all the books/standards/project folders stacking up in the department library.

Mid 2006
Started involving in some preliminary background information preparation work, doing some traffic survey supervision work, and doing some traffic engineering review work. All these work is only in the order of $2000 max. And I don’t really have to do much thinking. All I need to do is to get things done effectively.

Late 2006
My only achievement/improvement then was to organise AND supervise traffic surveys. I was “the person” to approach if someone in the department is to get some survey done. At this time, due to me being “upgraded” to becoming a organiser AND a supervisor, the cost of work that I was doing then was approximately $3000 max.

Early 2007 until Mid 2007
Due to a new grad joined us in early 2007, I passed most of my little “tasks” to him. I’ve been given chances to do projects all by myself but all my reports/outputs would be reviewed by my senior before issuing to the clients. I’ve done three mini engineering/planning projects in that period (approximately $6k fee each). For the very first time, I was being introduced as the “traffic engineer” during client meetings. Freaky but challenging. =) My senior and I were very pleased that our clients for all three projects were very satisfied with the output.

Now
Due to my senior being too occupied with other projects, I’ve been given the chance to do the final follow up of a $30k job which I’ve done extensive survey on and did the preliminary part of the project. And as I mentioned upfront, i’ve been given the chance to be a project manager finally. This job is more than $30k and I am really glad that I’ve been given this chance. =) wish me luck!!!!

All right… lunch time. =) Gonna go Remuera noodle house for lunch.. yum yum…
